MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at HIT was established in 2011 with a vision to develop competent, innovative, and ethically responsible mechanical engineers capable of addressing the evolving needs of industry and society. The department commenced its B.Tech. programme with an initial intake of 60 students, which was subsequently enhanced to 120 students from the academic session 2014–2015 in recognition of its growing reputation and academic excellence. The department is affiliated with Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Rourkela, and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. To strengthen technical education at multiple levels, the department also introduced a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in the academic session 2012–2013 with an intake of 60 students. Equipped with modern laboratories, advanced computing facilities, experienced faculty members, and an industry-oriented curriculum, the department provides a dynamic learning environment that fosters technical excellence, innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. The curriculum is complemented by project-based learning, industrial visits, internships, technical workshops, seminars, and interaction with industry experts, enabling students to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world engineering practice. The department has consistently maintained an excellent academic record, with students achieving commendable performances in university examinations, technical competitions, and placement activities. Through a strong emphasis on outcome-based education, multidisciplinary learning, and sustainable engineering practices, the department strives to nurture highly competent, socially responsible, and globally competitive mechanical engineers who contribute effectively to technological advancement and national development. With its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement, the Department of Mechanical Engineering continues to emerge as a centre of excellence in engineering education, producing graduates who are well-equipped to meet the challenges of modern industry, research, and higher education.
